Asbestos was banned because it causes fatal and debilitating diseases. The only way to prevent asbestos related diseases is to eliminate the risk of exposure by removing asbestos containing materials.
The VAEA’s work will enhance the safety of the Victorian community by planning for the eradication of asbestos from government buildings to reduce the risk of asbestos related diseases.
Our work is focussed on buildings owned by the Victorian government and includes: offices,
hospitals, train stations, community centres, prisons and TAFEs.
Asbestos is the name given to a group of naturally occurring mineral fibres found in rock formations.
